The Bluewater Unit of the Canadian Cancer Society hopes to raise 625 thousand dollars this year for Cancer research and patient services.
They’ll try to reach that goal through seven different Relays for Life in Grey Bruce this summer.
Fundraising Coordinator Brenda O’Neill says last year they raised 597 thousanm dollars and they’re hoping for 28 thousand more this year.
O’Neill says plans are well underway for all 7 relay events and the sense she’s getting is despite the economic set-backs in several communities, the support for these events is strong.
The Relay for Life season kicks off June 25th and 26th in Cape Croker.
It will be followed by events in Saugeen Shores (July 9-10), and town of Blue Mountains (July 16-17) in July; Kincardine(Aug. 13-14) and Mildmay (Aug. 20-21) in August; and Owen Sound (Sept. 17-18) and Hanover (Sept. 24-25) in September.
Meanwhile, organizers in Saugeen Shores continue to build up support for their award-winning event.
At last check, well over five thousand dollars had been raised on-line with 25 teams signed up.
Organizers are hoping to raise 200 thousand dollars this year, surpassing last year’s 176 thousand.
Co-chair of the event Nancy MacLeod says there’s going to be non-stop entertainment at the event including Juno nominee Jim Witter.
