Larry Miller says he has nothing to hide.
The Bruce Grey Owen Sound MP says he has no trouble with allowing the Auditor General to check out his Parliamentary expenses.
Miller in fact says all his expenses are listed on his web site for anyone to check out.
However he does admit the move by the Board of Internal Economy not to allow Auditor General Sheila Fraser to audit the half a billion dollars being spent by MP was very bad for the image of Parliamentarians.
Miller says the optics on this was very bad on this and it doesn’t look very good to people and he can fully understand why the taxpayers are upset over this.
He says this makes it look like MP’s have something to hide, which is not the case.
Miller says the Parliament Hill Media are on a witch hunt on this, and no matter what the number say there will be horror stories about the expenses of some MP’s, whether they are true or not.
He says even looking at his expenses, it would appear at first that his travel expenses were well over what was being spent by other back bench MP’s.
But Miller says as Chair of the Agriculture Committee, he has to travel across the country many times, so he will be spending a lot more on that than a regular MP.
The Bruce Grey Mp says he has no doubt the Auditor General eventually will get to examine the MP’s expenses and he hopes it can be a performance audit that would show whether the taxpayers are getting good value from their MP’s.
