The Owen Sound Police Service will be pooling their resources with other local detachments this summer.
Police Inspector Vince Wurfel says they’ll be teaming up with West Grey, Saugeen Shores and Hanover Police Services as well as OPP from Grey County and South Bruce detachments to concentrate their efforts during special events or long holiday weekends.
Wurfel hopes this will be an ongoing effort to combine the resources of several police detachments in the region.
In an attempt to increase safety on the roads this summer — the various police detachments will work together to execute a series of traffic enforcement initiatives in Grey Bruce — everything from RIDE checks to blitzes on seatbelts, speeders and aggressive drivers.
It means you may see various police cruisers in other communities this summer.
Wurfel says after they’ve been doing it for a while they’ll reassess the initiative and see how its working.
The partnerships start this long holiday weekend when Owen Sound police will be assisting with the Saugeen River Run event.
Wurfel says the pooling of resources will also come in handy in Owen Sound when thousands are expected to flock to the city for a July 3rd concert.
