After four years of hard work and careful research — the Source Water Protection draft assessment report is complete and ready for public consultation.
The 35 day consultation period begins today.
The first of eight public meetings to review the report is taking place this afternoon at the Grey Sauble Conservation Office in Owen Sound from 2 PM until 5 PM.
Project Manager Don Smith encourages residents to attend, saying the report identifies and evaluates threats to municipal drinking water.
He says the report impacts anyone with property within the vicinity of municipal drinking water wells, intakes along the shoreline or rural lakes.
The public can also review the report online www.waterprotection.ca or drop by the Saugeen Conservation or Grey Sauble Conservation office to pick up a copy.
Once the 35 day the public consultation period wraps up the committee will make any necessary changes to the document.
A second public consultation period will follow in June to present the public with any changes.
The finalized report will than be submitted to the province for approval by September 30th.
