You may not have noticed but the Bluewater District School Board turned 20 recently.
The Inaugural and Initial Organizational meeting of Bluewater District School Board was held on December 16, 1997, where Jennifer Yenssen was declared Chair of the Board and Ron Motz was declared as Vice-Chair.
Current trustees on the board at the time of amalgamation are Ron Motz who is serving another term as Chair of the board and Marilyn McComb, trustee for Georgian Bluffs/Chatsworth.
According to a report presented to the board’s Committee of the Whole (MAR 6), the boards budget 20 years ago was approximately $150 million, compared to $209 million in 2017-2018.
Enrolment was approximately 24,000 students within 61 schools, compared to approximately
16,300 students currently in 48 schools.
The report goes on to say, “Over the past twenty years, there has been a significant provincial and district focus and financial investment in student achievement and well-being. Millions of dollars have been utilized to increase student access to educational and mental health supports, technology, specialized programs, and youth apprenticeship. The number of Bluewater District School Board students meeting the requirements for graduation has also increased substantially over the past twenty years.”
