The proposed reconstruction of the intersection of Highway 21 and the Grey Bruce Line at Alvanley came up at last week’s Ontario Good Roads conference in Toronto.
Representatives from both counties met with Transportation Minister Kathleen Wynne to discuss their wishes for the intersection.
They told her they’d like it rebuilt within two years – the province has said they’re looking at the project for 2013 at the earliest.
They’d also like the MTO to consider a roundabout at that intersection.
Georgian Bluffs Mayor Alan Barfoot is the chair of Grey County’s Transportation and Public Safety Committee.
He says the project should be done sooner rather than later because the entire county line from Scone north to Alvanley has been completely rebuilt and Grey and Bruce want to put the top coat of asphalt on the road in the next year or two.
There’s little point in doing that if the road at Alvanley will be dug up again.
Barfoot told Grey County Council on Tuesday that the meeting with Wynne went well and he feels that Grey and Bruce’s representatives made a good case for their wish list.
