The punch line could be, “I was at an accident scene and a RIDE program broke out.”
Doesn’t make much sense but it’s exactly what happened to Saugeen Shores police on February 23rd.
Police say they were investigating an accident at Market and Goderich Streets in Port Elgin when a vehicle stopped near the scene waiting to make a turn.
Police tried to direct the driver around the area but apparently he didn’t move or even notice.
An officer spoke to the driver and observed the driver had been drinking.
The man subsequently failed a roadside breathalyzer test.
A 72 year old Port Elgin man now faces impaired driving charges.
