Simcoe Grey MP Helena Guergis is in hot water.
The junior cabinet minister is apologizing for throwing a tantrum last week at Charlottetown’s airport.
Helena Guergis — the minister of state for the status of women — says she was rushing to catch a flight and spoke “emotionally” to staff at the airport.
The news comes a day after we learned of a plea bargain for her husband on cocaine posession and drunk driving charges.
In a written statement, Guergis concedes her behaviour was not appropriate and apologizes to airport and Air Canada workers.
She also stresses her fondness for Prince Edward Island, where her father was born.
The statement follows an anonymous letter sent to P-E-I Liberal MP Wayne Easter — alleging that Guergis and an aide arrived late for their flight and became abusive toward staff.
Apparently concerned she’d miss her flight after being asked to remove her boots for security — the letter says Guergis fumed about being “stuck in this hell hole.”
Workers at the airport say Guergis rrived 15 minutes before her flight, demanding workers at the Jazz counter hurry her through because she wanted to get home to her husband on her quote — effing birthday.
The Globe and Mail reports one worker says it was the worst meltdown of a passenger he’s ever seen.
At one point, Guergis is reported to have tried to break through a door, carrying luggage she was told was too big to be carried on, and would need to be checked.
