The Hanover and District Hospital is scrambling to hire an ER Physician Assistant.
The hospital has been selected to participate in a two year government funded pilot project.
Under the program a physician assistant will be hired to work in the ER to help alleviate the pressure placed on Emergency Department doctors and nurses.
It will be the physician assistant’s responsibility to perform preliminary triaging and assessment work for the doctors.
Hanover had hired a International Medical Graduate to fill the position, but he has recently backed out.
The pilot begins March 1st, so the Hospital is busy lining up interviews with new candidates.
While physician assistants are a new concept for Ontario hospitals, they have played a key role in the Canadian Forces health care team and are used frequently in hospitals in the United States.
