Some employers will be honoured today for addressing workplace domestic violence and women abuse.
The Grey Bruce Violence Prevention Coordinating Committee will hand out certificates to 37 employers who have taken training to address workplace violence.
Community Coordinator Kathie Cole says the program first brings awareness to the issue of violence against women.
Cole says they help identify the warning signs for both the people who are abusing women and what to look for with their victims.
Cole says the incidents could be emotional and verbal abuse or could escalate to physical abuse.
And she warns physical abuse could lead to death.
Cole says they also educate employers about what to look for in women who are abused at home — whether they are missing work or have unexplained bruising.
Bill 168 now makes employers responsible to protect workers from domestic violence.
The presentation Friday took place at 10 AM at the Mens Program on 2nd Avenue East in Owen Sound.
If employers are interested in taking the one hour training program — they can call Kathie at 376-0755 extension 202.
