There are layoffs at the Community Care Access Centres in Owen Sound and Walkerton
Southwest CEO Sandra Coleman visited the staff in both offices on Wednesday and handed out layoff notices to eight staff — four in each office.
Coleman says the changes were made after they looked at staffing levels across the Southwest region — which stretches from Tobermory to Lake Erie.
She says they looked at other rural offices and wanted to ensure they had the same amount of staff in each location.
Coleman tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the layoffs will not impact client care.
In fact — Coleman claims they will have more money to spend on client care to provide the best service possible in Grey Bruce.
Coleman points to the fact they will be able to use that money to purchase services for local residents — whether its a personal support worker or in-home nurse.
The Community Care Access Centre connects residents with any health services they need to stay in their home or enjoy a better quality of life.
Coleman claims they have seen a 15 per cent increase in demand for their services in Grey Bruce.
There are 105 employees who work in the CCAC offices in Owen Sound and Walkerton.
