Hanover has a water mystery on its hands.
Staff suspect the majority of water loss is due to gasket leaks along the main transmission lines.
Leaks that Councillor Bob White would like to see fixed.
In all Hanover’s unaccounted water adds up to 150 thousand cubic meters.
White calls this too high and hopes staff will be able to determine where the water leaks are.
This won’t be easy considering all of the piping is underground.
It’s hoped however that an upcoming water, sewer and road upgrade project on 7th Avenue may shed some light on the missing water mystery.
Hanover did manage to detect 13 different small leaks in 2009.
The leaks accounted for 45 thousand cubic meters of loss water.
Staff hope to bring Hanover’s current 10 percent water loss ratio down to 5 per cent over the next year or two.
Hanover’s 10 per cent water loss rate is within the Ministry of Environments accepted criteria of 10 percent.
White says water is a precious commodity, stressing that it’s important the water leaks are found.
