The results are in of what Grand Bend residents think of Saugeen Shores.
The two towns recently participated in the Ontario government’s First Impressions program where a group from each community secretly visits the other town and rates things like their appearance, facilities, and appeal to visitors.
Councillor Luke Charbonneau says one of the interesting things is Saugeen Shores’ nickname of “windmill city” — even though there are no wind turbines within town limits.
Charbonneau says it shows what happens in neighbouring municipalities has an impact on how the town is perceived.
He says they heard great things from the Grand Bend group about the appearance of properties in Saugeen Shores, and positive things were also said about the town’s two harbours.
Charbonneau says there were suggestions that Saugeen Shores could do better with directional signage and waterfront improvements.
He says those are all things they were already aware of — but it’s good to have them reinforced by people from outside.
