The Town of Saugeen Shores is looking at ways of better organizing its parks and recreation facilities and services.
An 80 thousand dollar Parks and Recreation Master Plan study is one of the capital projects proposed for 2010.
The study would determine exactly what the town’s needs are and what sort of facilities it should have.
Councillor Luke Charbonneau says the community has to have good plans in place.
He says they need to blend together all of the different efforts and strategies they currently use.
Manager of Recreation and Culture Jayne Jagelewski notes that past efforts, like the Parks and Trails Master Plan are a great example of what can happen when a plan is put in place.
She says the master plan would give direction on where to go in the future when it comes to facilities, programs, beaches, parks, and trails.
Jagelewski wants to eliminate some of the “knee jerk” response she feels has occurred when it comes to parks and recreation needs.
Vice Deputy Mayor Doug Gowanlock says a plan is needed so the town can properly concentrate its efforts.
Deputy Mayor Doug Freiburger wants to be sure any future studies the town commissions do not end up conflicting with each other.
Whether or not the recreation study goes ahead will be decided by council during future budget discussions.
