Two major fires hit the Bruce Peninsula — one a barn fire and the other a house fire.
Bruce Peninsula OPP say a blaze Wednesday afternoon in a barn on Cherry Hill road in Northern Bruce Peninsula resulted in the death of approximately 75 head of cattle.
The fire was reported about 1 PM — and it totally destroyed a turn-of-the-century wood barn , killing the animals inside.
Firefighters also had to try and contain the blaze, which spread to a nearby field and burned between 10 and 15 acres before being stopped by fire crews.
The total cost of the loss has yet to be determined.
The Town of South Bruce Peninsula Fire Department was also out Wednesday — fighting a blaze at a residence on Dawson Street in Wiarton.
The two-story home was empty when the fire started.
Officials suspect an electrical problem, and damage to the structure is estimated at about 100 thousand dollars.
Approximately 25 fire fighters were on scene from both fire stations in the municipality and spent about 4 hours to get the fire out.
Firefighters were concerned that their efforts to fight the blaze could have been hampered by damaged water supply hoses when two vehicles which drove past road closed barricades ran over the lines.
