Bruce Power has announced it will suspend it’s plan to ship steam generators overseas to Sweden for recycling.
A statement from President and CEO Duncan Hawthorne states they are delaying their plan in order to allow further discussions with those seeking additional information – specifically First Nations and Metis.
Manager of Investor and Media Relations Steve Cannon says Bruce Power wants questions by – what they call – legitimate groups answered before moving forward.
Cannon says the license Bruce Power has obtained from the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission to transport the steam generators expires after one year.
However, he adds the company will take whatever time is required to address the concerns of the groups in question – saying Bruce Power will simply apply for an extension if needed.
Cannon says it is more important the company does this right – rather than doing it quickly.
Cannon says one of the primary goals of this delay is to clear up any misinformation and make people comfortable with Bruce Power’s plan.
No timeline has been given for the eventual shipment of the steam generators.
