The Conservative MP for Huron-Bruce is speaking out in the wake of his government’s downfall.
Ben Lobb says his government was in a no-win situation on the issues facing a Commons committee looking into the costing of several Tory initiatives.
Lobb characterizes the committee as a “kangaroo court” because Opposition members outnumbered Conservatives.
He believes the government was denied a fair chance to defend itself because it didn’t have enough committee votes no matter how well-crafted an argument it presented.
Lobb fires back at Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff who claims the Harper government stonewalled Parliament for four months on costing of the F35 stealth fighter.
Lobb says there are a great number of details surrounding the cost of the F35 which is the only next-generation fighter available to replace the 1970’s-era CF18.
He says the Opposition was off-track when they accused the Conservatives of trying to hide the true cost of the plane.
Lobb says it’s impossible to put all of the details on a single spreadsheet and that late delivery of a six-inch thick binder on the F35 was not meant as a stunt.
The committee also probed the cost of the Tories’ tough-on-crime agenda and corporate tax cuts.
Another issue surrounded whether International Co-operation Minister Bev Oda should be held in contempt for an altered government memo.
Prime Minister Harper is expected to submit his government’s resignation to the Governor-General on Saturday morning.
