The smells could be interesting around Grey-Bruce schools today.
But it’s all part of an awareness campaign.
The Bluewater District School Board Student Senate is encouraging everyone to “Go Blue-er-water” today and conserve water by not showering.
Jessica MacKinnon is a Grade 12 student at Chesley District High School.
She says they’re issuing the challenge to staff, students and board members to coincide with World Water Day.
If everybody were to conserve water by not showering today, MacKinnon says they would save 3.2 million litres — which is enough to fill 40 backyard swimming pools.
MacKinnon says one of the Student Senate’s initiatives this year is to create more environmental awareness and this day is a chance for them to take advantage of that.
She says they’re also trying to think globally and act locally.
MacKinnon hopes people will think about those living in countries where clean and safe drinking water is not available.
All students and staff are being encouraged to also bring a reusable water bottle and wear blue in support of World Water Day.
