A new strategy in the war against crystal meth is being launched today in Chesley.
Meth Watch is a program that links retailers with law enforcement agencies in a partnership designed to monitor suspicious sales of products used to manufacture crystal meth.
About 100 retailers from across Grey Bruce — including pharmacists and farm co-ops — will receive a crash course from law authorities.
They will learn what is considered suspicious activity and what they should do in the event of it.
Under the program — customers who purchase large quantities of products used in the making of crystal meth may be questioned or required to provide identification.
Retailers will also be given Meth Watch signs to inform customers that their purchases are being monitored.
Hanover Mayor Kathi Maskell is co-hosting today’s event — and hopes the program works against the growing problem of crystal meth use.
Maskell thinks more must be done to get rid of the dangerous narcotic — and she feels the Meth Watch is a good first step.
The info session takes place from 10 AM to 2 PM at the Bluewater school board office in Chesley.
