Two August storms have intensified the need for repairs to the roof at Grey Gables.
The County-owned long term care facility in Markdale is slated to get a whole new roof in 2010.
It will replace a roof that has been deteriorating due to improper and inadequate ventilation.
Fifty thousand dollars had been budgeted for remediation this year, just to tide things over until the replacement.
But a major storm on August 9th, followed by the August 20th tornado, has sped up the deterioration of the roof.
County council has approved a decision by the social services committee to obtain bids to complete necessary emergency repair work.
Southgate Deputy Mayor Brian Milne — the vice-chair of the social services committee — says the work needs to be done.
But he says its not known yet whether the 50 thousand budgeted for roof repairs this year will cover the cost of the work to be done.
