The Ontario Early Years Centre, at Brucelea Haven in Walkerton is looking for a new location.
Bruce County Director of Social Services, Terry Sanderson says on some occasions they’ve had to turn away parents and their young children because they were full to capacity.
The room legally holds 22 parents and their children.
Sanderson says since the Ministry of Education leans towards the co-location of hub services at local schools, the Bruce Grey Separate School Board is very interested in exploring the possibility of a move to Mother Theresa in Walkerton.
He says the school has two empty classrooms that could be used for the program and would allow everyone interested to attend and not be turned away.
No specific details have been discussed with the Separate School Board and further
analysis will need to take place before a final recommendation can be submitted.
The primary focus will be on determining the adaptability of the new location and
the potential cost implications.
Currently the program is paying 500 dollars a month for rent at Brucelea Haven, who have no problems with the program looking for a bigger venue.
The Early Years program deals with parents and their children up to age four.
Sanderson says it’s not a child-care centre.
The parents stay and interact with their children through stories and music and exercise to name a few activities.
