Ottawa is moving to name offenders online, when it comes to food safety.
Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz has announced that the Canadian Food Inspection agency will start posting names of companies who do not follow food safety checks on the CFIA website.
Bruce Grey Owen Sound Conservative M-P Larry Miller welcomes the move.
He says about the only time consumers learn about a problem is when a recall is launched by a company or by the Canadian Food Inspection agency.
Miller says too many food companies try to boycott the rules in hopes of cutting costs, and consumers are the ones who pay in the long run.
Canada is following the example of the U-S in disclosing the information.
Miller says in the future, the CFIA may move beyond listing suspensions and cancellations of company licenses to include details of inspection reports.
The Conservative M-P says most companies follow food safety procedures properly but others run into problems.
Miller says facing the threat of exposure should keep companies focused on food safety.
