It’s the final week for the Bruce Area Solid Waste Recycling Association Annual Food Drive.
General Manager Vince Cascone says they collected 4,260 pounds of food last week, ahead of last year at the same time.
Cascone says the need this year though is greater than ever.
The shelves are bare at the Salvation Army Food Bank in Owen Sound, where they’ve already had to take from the Port Elgin location.
Residents are asked to put out a bag of canned or non perishable food items in a separate bag on their recycling day.
Collections are being done in seven communities including Saugeen Shores, Kincardine, South Bruce, Arran Elderslie, South Bruce Peninsula, Brockton and Huron Kinloss.
Cascone says they’re hoping to do better than the 7,460 pounds of food collected last year.
