An emotional night set to take place at Harrison Park in Owen Sound.
The 7th annual Owen Sound relay for life will be running tonight at a new location this year.
Fundraising Coordinator Brenda O’Neil says the six year fundraising total is 560-thousand dollars.
O’Neil says this years hopeful target is between 70 and 80 thousand dollars.
Money raised is to go towards cancer research as well as local cancer programs.
New this year is the location.
Due to construction of the new Regional Rec Centre at Victoria Park the location this year will be at Harrison Park.
O’Neil says Harrison Park will be a more intimate setting for the event and the track will be clearly marked.
O’Neil says they have about 30 teams registered and the event is open to all – not just those who have teams formed.
She says the relay is not only celebratory but has very poignant moments – like the first lap for survivors and the lighting of the luminaries.
Registration starts at 4 PM.
Opening ceremonies start at 6:45 PM and the first lap as well as the lighting of the luminaries starts at 7 PM sharp.
O’Neil says there are many local entertainers performaning and there will be activities throughout the entire night to keep walkers energized.
The event wraps at 7 AM Saturday.
