The New Seasons Restaurant on Queen Street in Kincardine has received permission to turn its former banquet room into two residential units while maintaining its eatery.
Part of the argument to allow was that it’s a tough go for businesses and merchants in downtown Kincardine and new aggressive ideas need to be considered.
This created a bit of a stir between two councillors last week about the health of the downtown area.
Councillor Ken Craig took offence to the negativity in the planning presentation about the downtown area saying business is good in the area.
Councillor Jacqueline Faubert disagreed saying the downtown area needs help.
Faubert says what with the highway commercial development in the area, the downtown core needs help to bring people back.
She says business people are struggling in the downtown Kincardine area and council should do all it can to help make the area more vibrant.
Although both councillors disagreed on the business health of downtown Kincardine, both did agree that the creation of residential units in the core area is the way to go.
They, along with the rest of council, approved the re-zoning.
