The Owen Sound Police Service and the MTO are working together to increase vehicle safety on our highways.
The Owen Sound Police High Enforcement Team and Community Oriented Response and Enforcement unit conducted a safety blitz on Monday with two inspectors from the Ministry of Transportation.
Checking for possible safety risks, a total of 15 passenger vehicles were pulled over for inspection.
Five of the vehicles were removed from the highway due to mechanical problems that posed a serious risk to the safety of the drivers and public.
Two of the drivers were given a grace period to rectify concerns, while three were in minor contravention to the Highway Traffic Act.
One driver even admitted his car was not fit for the road, and chose to remove it himself rather than undergo an inspection.
The type of maintenance problems included bad tires, defective brakes, leaking exhaust systems, rotted body panels and broken or damaged suspension.
Police remind you it is your responsibility to maintain your car to the standards of the Highway Traffic Act.
