Kincardine’s municipal grant program got a reprieve in the 2011 budget talks.
Clerk Donna MacDougall was surprised that her staff’s suggestion to cut the grant program in half this year was turned down by council.
In fact, councillors voted to keep the grant program at 50 thousand dollars — the same as last year.
MacDougall says the money is used to provide some expense money to the myriad organizations in Kincardine that make it a better place to live.
She says the money is used up with over 30 organizations getting grants last year and many more on a waiting list.
Mayor Larry Kraemer says he has no problem leaving this small budget item untouched.
He says the organizations that get the money bring a lot of value to the community.
He says most people within these groups are volunteers and just need a little help with their expenses.
