One group continues to voice its opposition to Bruce Power’s plan to ship 16 decommissioned steam generators on the Great Lakes to Sweden.
The Sierra Club is the latest environmental organization to come forward to say it shouldn’t be done.
In fact, the group has joined the Canadian Environmental Law Association and they have gone to court to block the shipment.
Dan McDermott of the Ontario Chapter says all it takes is one accident to have catastrophic results.
McDermott suggests the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission is just a rubber stamp for the government and should not to be trusted.
The House of Commons Standing Committee on Natural Resources met this week to look into the CNSC’s decision to allow 16 decommissioned steam generators to travel on the Great Lakes for recycling in Sweden.
McDermott says it’s not safe to ship contaminated equipment through the Great Lakes and to say so is irresponsible because it can be harmful to the environment.
McDermott and the Sierra Club feel above ground retrievable storage on site is the answer.
