The longest serving Chief of the Owen Sound Police Service is looking back on his time with great satisfaction.
Chief Tom Kaye has been involved in policing for 34 years in total — 16 of which have been in Owen Sound.
Kaye spent 14 of those years as Chief.
Kaye started his career in Toronto – moving on to Shelburne, Cobourg, Smiths Falls, and finally Owen Sound in December 1995.
Kaye spent the early part of his last day (FRI) on the force on the CFOS Open Line program talking about the ups and downs of the last 14 years.
In one particularly heated moment, Chief Kaye sounded off on his critics – specifically local lawyer John Tamming.
Tamming has called the police budget into question, stating it is simply costing too much given the size of the city it serves.
Kaye defended his record as Chief of the Owen Sound Police – saying he has never run a budget deficit in his entire tenure as chief – adding policing costs what it costs.
Kaye says he is leaving the post with no regrets – adding he has accomplished everything he set out to do.
Kaye has been appointed to the National Parole Board of Canada.
