The next meeting of the Inter-Municipal Wind Turbine Working Group is set to go and another municipality has been added to the group.
Kincardine council recently approved Councillors Randy Roppel and Ron Coristine as their reps after a short presentation by Armow citizen Scott Duncan, who urged council to become involved.
Duncan says past councils appeared to hope that if they didn’t talk about it, the wind turbine issue would go away.
He says it’s not going away and it needs to be talked about.
Duncan says he’s glad council is going to be a part of the group.
He says it’s their mandate to protect its citizens and they need to make some decisions to live up to that.
Councillor Randy Roppel says he and Councillor Ron Coristine will get a broader view of the industry and what they will be facing in the future.
He says he hopes it will give the public some assurance that they know what’s going on.
Kincardine will also advertise for an interested citizen to represent the municipality as well at the table.
Duncan has already indicated he will apply for that position.
The Inter-Municipal Wind Turbine Working Group has drawn together representatives from area municipalities to share and discuss “best practices” and other means to address mutual concerns regarding proposals to locate and install industrial/commercial wind generation facilities.
Several communities from Bruce and Grey counties, including Huron Kinloss, Arran Elderslie, Brockton, Chatsworth and Saugeen Shores are part of the group as well.
Tonight’s meeting gets underway at 7 PM at the Arran Elderslie council chambers in Chesley.
