The Owen Sound Attack are partnering with the Canadian Cancer Society to take a slap shot at colorectal cancer.
Several team members took part in a special Colorectal Cancer awareness seminar on Friday at the Bayshore Community Centre in Owen Sound.
The seminar was presented by Cancer Care Ontario, and featured guest speaker Doctor Ralph Suke of the Saugeen Shores Medical Clinic.
Doctor Suke says they are trying to get the word out about screening for colon and bowel cancer, because it is a preventable disease if detected in an early stage.
He says people 50 and older are the most at risk, and they should take a simple Fecal Occult Blood Test to get checked out.
To get the message out, the Attack are partnering with the Bluwater Unit of the Canadian Cancer Society holding a puck toss at Saturday night’s game against Peterborough.
Fundraising Coordinator Jennifer Wright says people can come down to the Bayshore at Noon Saturday to watch the team shave their heads and purchase a puck for five dollars to toss on the ice at intermission.
She adds the Attack will also be wearing a Colon Cancer Check or CCC patch on their jersey’s to raise awareness for the cause.
