Projecting signs on businesses in Saugeen Shores are here to stay and town council has voted to make it easier to get them.
Deputy Mayor Luke Charbonneau called for and won the waiving of licencing fees for the signs which would have cost any interested business 650 dollars.
Charbonneau says eliminating the costs has only a small impact financially on the town but creates a huge potential for businesses to locate in the core areas with one less cost to worry about.
He says the signs allow business operators to effectively market what they’re all about at street level, enticing shoppers to spend their money.
Charbonneau says the projecting signs are back and now with the waiving of the fees, all businesses should be able to afford to get such a sign without, what he calls the “Draconian fee” that was imposed by the town.
The fee waiver passed by a slim 4-3 margin at council recently — but Charbonneau calls it a small cost to the municipality and a huge benefit to business owners.
