The Hanover and District Hospital is on the leading edge when it comes to its charting system.
The hospital has now switched over to electronic charting.
CEO Katrina Wilson says e-charting provides numerous benefits to both the patients and staff.
Wilson notes nurses are now able to chart right at a patients bedside while care is occurring — providing accurate and current information about the patients progress.
Medication ordered by physicians is checked by pharmaceutical staff and entered electronically decreasing potential errors in transcription.
Wilson says the e-charting also reduces duplication and ensures everyone is using a standard system.
And she notes the electronic health records now follow patients wherever they go.
Wilson admits switching from the traditional charting system was not easy as it took some time for staff to adjust and familiarize themselves with the technology.
Wilson says all the extra time and hard work is now paying off as the hospital reaps the benefits of electronic charting.
