The Medical Officer of Health for Grey-Bruce is concerned about energy drinks.
Stemming from correspondence from the Peterborough Health Unit, the Grey Bruce Board of Health is supporting a call for energy drink ads to be restricted and the sale of premixed alcohol and energy drinks outright banned.
Doctor Hazel Lynn is in agreement, stating energy drinks are especially dangerous for young people.
Doctor Lynn believes since energy drinks are more readily available and consumable than coffee, young people are more likely to buy them.
Especially worrisome to is the availability of energy drinks mixed with alcohol.
Doctor Lynn points to the fact that such drinks make you wide-awake-drunk.
The report received by the Board of Health shows other significant health risks such as inability to perform tasks requiring alertness, increased alcohol consumption, increased risk of injury, and even sexual assault.
