Former Saugeen Shores councillor Victoria Serda has been named the chair for the next three years of the Saugeen Shores Community Fund.
She replaces John Miller of Port Elgin.
Serda says she’s looking forward to helping the community fund set up more legacy funds in order to generate more grant money to give out each year.
Last year around two thousand dollars was given out to groups such as PRANCE, the equestrian program for developmentally challenged riders; the Southampton Art School and the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre.
The fund only hands out they’ve earned through the interest of donations that come in.
Serda says considering the Saugeen Shores Community Fund has just gotten off the ground, giving away two thousand dollars is quite an accomplishment.
She says the fund will become more agressive in marketing and communication so that citizens understand how important the funds are to the community’s health and well being.
The Saugeen Shores Community Fund was started three years ago to enrich the quality of life of people in Saugeen Shores, by supporting projects of not-for-profit charitable organizations involved in education, the disabled, recreation, seniors, agriculture and the environment.
All funds raised in Saugeen Shores, stay in the community.
