Spring is creeping up and that means sap will soon be flowing from maple trees in Grey Bruce.
President of the Grey Bruce chapter of the Ontario Maple Syrup Producers Association Nick Bereznick says some 30,000 taps will be put up in Grey Bruce this year
To kick off the season, the Grey Bruce Chapter is hosting the first maple sap tapping ceremony this Saturday (19th) just outside of Kemble at 10:00 AM at Miners Maple Products (330351 Georgian Range Road).
Bereznick says the official first tap of the year is just to let people know the season has arrived.
The Grey Bruce chapter has 30 farms registered as producing maple syrup this year.
Bereznick estimates there’s 3 to 4 thousand maple syrup operations registered in Ontario.
