A high water safety bulletin has been issued for our area.
The Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority says flood potential is low, but ice jams are more likely with the thaw.
The NVCA says the mild temperatures the last few days have caused significant snow melt and flows in area waterways are increasing which creates the right conditions for ice jams.
The Conservation Authority adds the water flows will continue to be high over the weekend and the freezing temperatures coming back starting later today will mean dangerous icy conditions along river banks.
The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority is also warning of high water levels in the area.
Officials say the recent warmer temperatures are melting snow and creating potentially unsafe conditions along the watershed.
Parents are reminded to keep children and pets away from lakes and watercourses during the next few days, as the water temperature remains very cold.
The ABCA says there shouldn’t be significant levels of flooding, but they’ll continue to monitor conditions.
