That’s the message Georgian Bluffs council is sending the YMCA after hearing Wednesday night that the Y wants to meet with the township to discuss its financial commitment to the regional rec centre.
Councillor Ryan Thompson — who is the township’s representative on the rec centre’s steering committee — told council that the Y wants to make a deputation to council as it has in the past.
The Y wants to talk about the project, specifically the township’s plans regarding its future pledge to the 38.6-million dollar centre being built at Victoria Park in Owen Sound.
Georgian Bluffs has yet to determine an amount but has said it will contribute a figure that reflects the usage by its residents of the aquatic and fitness facilities at the Y.
That figure is believed to be in the 600 thousand dollar range.
But Mayor Alan Barfoot says the number will be negotiated in due time between the township and the city of Owen Sound.
Barfoot says that although council will eventually agree to meet with the Y, now is not the time.
He notes Georgian Bluffs has more pressing issues on its plate — including its 2011 budget, pending meetings with surrounding municipalities about areas of mutual interest, and finding a replacement for CAO Bill White.
Council did decide on Wednesday that Thompson will continue to represent the township on the rec centre steering committee.
