Hanover has come up with its own funding formula for individuals and organizations that want municipal grants and donations.
Director of Corporate Services Christine Walker believes the new policy will help ensure fairness by using a consistent and standardized process.
Under the policy the requesting individual or organization must be from Hanover or the surrounding area.
Any request under a thousand dollars can be made in the form of a letter, anything over that amount will require a complete application form and more detailed financial information.
A request of 5 thousand dollars or more can only be made by a Hanover organization.
They will also need to provide an budget, an audited financial statement and appear before council to make the request.
The most important stipulation for any request however is that the funds will in someway benefit the town of Hanover and its residents.
This includes everything from a student heading to the national science fair to an organization raising funds for a local project.
Its hoped the new rules will help council better scrutinize who should receive the funds and should not.
With a limited amount of money in the budget for these types of things – Council wants to ensure it spends taxpayer dollars wisely.
