Another municipality is taking legal action against an online blogger.
South Bruce Peninsula council says it will not tolerate any harassment of its employees.
Mayor John Close says the blog existed while the previous council was in office, and has made slanderous comments and personal attacks on municipal staff.
Close wouldn’t disclose the name of the person behind the blog, but says they will bring legal action.
Meaford recently dealt with a mysterious blogger during the last municipal election campaign.
When that council decided to take legal action, it stirred up protest from the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, which claims that infringes on freedom of speech.
But Close says he’s not worried about it at all, as they have a good handle on identifying one of the contributors to the blog.
He says “slander is slander,” and it cannot be tolerated no matter which form it takes.
Close says with technology and social media changing the political landscape, this could be a problem for years to come.
If so, he says it’s up to South Bruce Peninsula council to be the leaders in stopping this type of harassment.
