If Saugeen Shores Acting Community Services Director Jayne Jagelewski has her way, vending machines in our arenas will be a thing of the past.
Jagelewski told council during recent preliminary budget discussions she’s preparing a report for council that calls for the elimination of all vending machines in the Plex in Port Elgin and the Coliseum in Southampton that dispense unhealthy snacks.
Candy and sugary snacks and drinks would fall into that category.
It would mean a minimal loss of revenue of almost 900-dollars from both arenas.
The plan already doesn’t sit well with Deputy Mayor Luke Charbonneau.
He says the municipality shouldn’t be moralistic about what people are consuming.
Charbonneau says the options should be available in both arenas and parents should be monitoring what their children are consuming, along with themselves.
