First the Durham hospital and now the Chesley hospital is sporting solar energy panels on its roof.
Both hospitals are part of the South Bruce Grey Health System and Vice-President of corporate services Walter Yewchyn says they started the experiment two years ago at the Durham site.
Yewchyn told a recent board meeting (JAN. 26.11) the Durham experiment to heat water by solar energy was a complete success so they’ve added a similar program at Chesley.
He says they received approval for the solar panels from the senior levels of government in November, with the proviso that the project be completed by the end of December if they wanted grant money.
Yewchyn says they did it, completing the $44,000 project on December 29th.
Chesley hospital now has 8 solar panels on the building.
Although there are no plans to install similar panels at SBGHC’s two other hospitals in Kincardine and Walkerton, Yewchyn believes the program would be a good fit in Kincardine.
