Cleaning up Owen Sound’s image was on the menu at the Annual Owen Sound & District Chamber of Commerce Mayor’s Lunch.
Mayor Deb Haswell spoke to business people (Wed) about improving the city’s image though social media and less red tape.
She talked about opening up more communication channels and encouraging city staff to use their professional skills to facilitate.
Haswell noted they may be a little behind the times when it comes to new age communication and she says they are now implementing new media initiatives.
Although vague on details, Haswell says city staff are taking a new approach in dealing with developers and businesspeople.
The main focus of the luncheon was on issues that can create economic growth for the entire region.
So for the first time, the Chamber invited Mayors from Georgian Bluffs, Chatsworth and Meaford as well.
Among the topics discussed included library, police and fire services.
Haswell says there’s ongoing discussions about sharing services with neighbouring municipalities but policing isn’t one of those services.
She says City Police offer a much different service than the OPP.
