Georgian College is expanding again, adding eight new full time programs next Fall.
That will bring the total number of programs offered at the various campuses to over 100.
It’s an attempt to match up skills with jobs that need new workers.
In Owen Sound, the Associate Dean Donna Jansen says there will be two new one-year certificate programs offered in the engineering technology area.
Electrical techniques train students on basic electrical functions and graduates can apply for work as electricians’ helpers or apprentices.
The second new program, Environmental techniques provides up to date knowledge on environmental regulations and policies. Grads can then work for municipalities in water and sewage treatment.
About 30 thousand dollars in new equipment is needed for the new programs.
Jansen says the Owen Sound campus can accommodate the new programs by stretching out the time that classes run each day but she says they are nearing the point that an expansion would be needed.
