Kincardine has yet to finalize its 2011 budget — but has decided to move ahead with one big expense.
It seems the Kincardine municipal administration building has a leaky roof and it needs to be fixed or replaced.
Public works manager Jim O’Rourke says he’s been told it will be cheaper in the long run to replace the tile roof with a steel one that has a 50-year life span.
The cost for this is 270 thousand dollars.
The report states that staff has deemed the project to be an “emergency” and therefore exempt from the “hiatus” from capital works being suggested for 2011.
Approval was granted and tenders for the project will be called with an eye to spring or early summer construction.
Council was meeting under a ceiling that had a couple of the tell-tale water marks from the leaky roof.
The roof is the original roof of the building built in 1992.
