GC Huston is a leader in the Bluewater School Board when it comes to conserving the environment, and they’re hoping to hold onto that title.
The school has been designated a gold-level eco-school by the province.
Teacher Judy Stoner took the lead on this project, saying when she saw the standards that needed to be reached, she realized it was many practices the school already had in place.
She says they had to reduce waste by increasing recycling, reducing energy use, and to “green” the school.
Stoner says their greening project was to create a butterfly garden.
Stoner says GC Huston is the first school in the Bluewater School Board to achieve this status.
She says it required involvement from teachers, students and parents.
The school is submitting this process again as their status will be reviewed in April.
Stoner is hoping to retain their gold-standard.
The report has to be in to the province by January 31st.
