Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Murdoch can count on the support of Kincardine council when it comes to hiking the bounty on coyotes.
Council passed a resolution calling on the Ontario government to increase the bounty to 200 dollars for each coyote carcass and allow counties to implement their own proof of kill collection system.
Right now the bounty in Bruce County is 100 dollars while the bounties in Grey and Huron counties is 50 dollars.
The three counties have met recently to try to come up with a uniform bounty price but there’s been no further word on that score.
Kincardine Councillor Randy Roppel says farmers are being paid over a million dollars to help recoup costs for loss or injury to livestock.
He says that tells him a more concerted effort must be made to control the coyote population and an increased bounty may be the answer.
Roppel says a disturbing story has come from Murdoch’s office where it was reported not only livestock and pets are being attacked by coyotes but a person was bitten by one of the animals as well.
He says Kincardine council will send its support of the Murdoch petition to Bruce County Council and to Huron Bruce MP Ben Lobb.
