There will be a tax increase in Kincardine this year.
Councillors are gearing to get down and dirty when it comes to this year’s budget.
Kincardine Mayor Larry Kraemer put out the challenge that this council has to reach a balanced budget by the end of its four year term.
They start this year over 1.9-million dollars in the hole.
CAO John deRosenroll says council has said the broad direction for a tax rate increase is three percent.
Various departments will be back with their individual budgets in March.
deRosenroll says councillors will then decide whether or not to add or to cutback but a 3 per cent tax increase will be the minimum.
Meanwhile there will be a special council meeting on February 1st to do an in-house Service Delivery Review.
deRosenroll says council wants to make sure taxpayers are getting the best bang for their buck when it comes to municipal services.
Serious budget talks get underway Monday, March 7th.
