The rescue of a Kitchener women — injured in a snowmobile crash on Sunday afternoon — received tremendous assistance from the Tobermory Snowmobile Club.
The 55 year old woman was riding alongside her husband when she struck a tree just off the trail.
The Northern Bruce Peninsula Fire Department participated in the rescue effort but were assisted by six members of the club.
Tobermory Snowmobile Club Vice President Norm Rintoul says he and 5 other club members were enjoying a Sunday ride when they came across the crash and called 9-1-1.
After a sequence of correspondence, the Club members suggested there was a better route into the trail than the initial one proposed.
To that end, two members met the emergency services crew and a new access point and transported emergency service members and their equipment back through the woods onto the trail.
Rintoul, says the most valuable asset the club members had was local knowledge of the trail and the surrounding vicinity which allowed them to cut time off of the rescue attempt which was just under an hour from the initial call to treatment.
After participating in the rescue, Rintoul states the key for snowmobilers of every description is to be prepared and have items that may be required and valuable for any situation.
Rintoul also acknowledges that a working knowledge of first aid is also a must.
After being transported from the trail, the women stayed overnight at the Lion’s Head hospital for observation.
