Chantry Island off Southampton has been named the best hidden travel gem for 2010 in Canada.
Bruce County Tourism Manager Kim McPhedran says an on-line competition on the Canadian Tourism Commission website — www.localsknow.ca — resulted in the Island taking top spot.
An 8-week campaign focused on the unexpected, encouraging Canadians to seek out new and exotic experiences in places they didn’t know existed.
They post those favourite spots on line and people can vote on which looks like the best hidden travel gem.
McPhedran says they will use the win by Chantry Island to help boost Tourism in Bruce County.
It’s the second year in a row Bruce county has taken top honours.
She says in 2009 the top hidden travel gem was Indian head grove and the Grotto in the Bruce Peninsula National Park.
